Ingredients and Substitutions
- Cool Whip - If you're not a fan of cool whip, you could absolutely make your own whipped cream using heavy cream.
- Hot Chocolate Packets - I used starbucks hot chocolate because I think it's one of the best store bought varieties I could find.
- Marshmallow Fluff - I actually think the jetpuffed marshamllow fluff is better than the traditional fluff but don't tell them that.
- Candy Canes - These are for decoration on the top of the pie - you can leave them out if you're not into peppermint hot chocolate.
- Shaved Chocolate - You can use milk or dark chocolate - whatever you prefer. Just use a peeler to shave it into little curls.
- Chocolate Pie Crust - You could really use any pie crust you want.
How to make it
I love how easy it is to make this frozen hot chocolate pie and you will, too!
First, you'll want to whip together the hot chocolate mix and one tub of cool whip. Once combined, pour it into the pie crust.
In a separate bow, fold the marshmallow fluff into the other tub of whipped cream.
It's ok if it's kind of chunky. Once it's combined, pour on top of the hot chocolate layer.
Pop the pie in the freezer for at leaset 3-4 hours or overnight.
When you're ready to serve, shave chocolate bits on top or sprinkle on the chocolate chips if you’re using them. Then finish with a sprinkle of crushed candy canes.
Then it's time to enjoy with your loved ones!
And be sure to keep the pie in the freezer if you're not going to eat it right away.

Frequently asked question
Why is it called frozen hot chocolate?
Frozen Hot Chocolate is a delightful oxymoron. It's a playful twist on the classic beverage, where the rich, indulgent flavors of hot chocolate get a cool, frosty makeover. This sippable treat is like a wintery dream on a summer's day. It's a whimsical, tongue-in-cheek name for a dessert that combines the best of both worlds. Who doesn't like the comfort of hot chocolate and the refreshing chill of a frozen delight?
Can frozen pie go bad?
Even in the chilly embrace of your freezer, a frozen pie isn't immune to the sands of time. It can bid farewell to its peak deliciousness after about 4 to 6 months. At that point, it will slowly lose its scrumptious charm and texture. It's a gentle reminder to savor those sweet, frozen delights sooner rather than later.
How long will chocolate pie last in the fridge?
Regular chocolate pie, nestled in the back of the fridge, retains itself 3 to 4 days. But for this recipe, I recommend keeping it in the freezer until you're ready to eat it.
