Ingredients and Substitutions
- Croissant Buns - I get these at Aldi! They're one of my favorite seasonal products that I always buy in bulk and freeze.
- Fig Jam - Fig jam pairs perfectly with mustard and ham. But if you don't like fig jam, you could use another jam of your choosing.
- Grainy Honey Dijon Mustard - If you don't have grainy honey dijon, you could use a regular grainy mustard or a dijon - honestly whatever you prefer!
- Ham - If you are not into ham, this sandwich is still delicious even without it! If you're looking for a substitution, you could try bacon, sausage or even prosciutto.
- Comte - Comte is the essential French cheese. If you don't have it, you could swap it for Gruyere or another nutty alpine style cheese.

Frequently asked questions
Do ham and cheese croissants need to be refrigerated?
If you eat them right away or without a few hours, they do not need to be refrigerated. If you're making them a night in advanced or something like that, then I would definitely recommend refrigerating them!
What is the best way to heat up a ham and cheese croissant?
There are a few ways to reheat a ham and cheese croissant. Here are a few of the most popular methods:
- Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Place the croissant on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the croissant is heated through.
- Toaster oven: Preheat your toaster oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Place the croissant on a baking sheet and toast for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the croissant is heated through.
- Microwave: I do not recommend using a microwave because it makes the croissant texture too chewy... but if you had to, place it in the microwave for 1 minute./
- Air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius). Place the croissant in the air fryer basket. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the croissant is heated through.
Can you eat croissants cold?
Yes, you can eat croissants cold. However, I don't recommend it. In my opinion, they are best warm or at room temperature. The flaky, crispy layers of the croissant are more pronounced when they are warm, and the butter inside melts in your mouth. If you do eat a croissant cold, it may be a bit dry and chewy. You can try toasting it or warming it in the oven to make it more enjoyable.
