Ingredients and Substitutions to make Italian Sliders on Hawaiian Pretzel Rolls
- Mayo - If you don't want mayo, you can leave this off and use oil and vinegar or just the calabrian chili paste.
- Calabrian Chilis - These italian chilis are so dang tasty and good. If you can't find them, you can use any spicy chili paste you can find like sriracha, sambal or even crispy chili oil.
- Kings Hawaiian Pretzel Roll Sliders - Kings Hawaiian makes my favorite slider buns but you could use any kind of tiny buns you prefer.
- Provolone & Muenster - You can switch out any of these cheeses for something that you prefer. I recommend swiss, havarti, fontina or even shaved parmigiano.
- Ham & Salami - Same goes for cold cuts - if you don't like ham and salami, try prosciutto and mortadella or capicola and turkey. This is your sandwich - use what you like!
- Fresh Spinach - Try arugula or mixed greens if you don't like spinach.
- Sun Dried Tomatoes - Roasted tomatoes or even fresh tomatoes work just fine although I recommend the flavors of sun dried the most!
- Banana Peppers - If you're not a fan of banana peppers, you can try pickled jalapenos, pink pickled onions, peppadews or just leave them off.
- Roasted Red Peppers - I use the jarred variety but if you don't like peppers, you can use grilled onions or even marinated grilled zucchini and eggplant.
- Basil Leaves - Basil is optional but it's the only herb i recommend on these sliders.
How to make them
Making these easy italian sliders is super easy - you basically just stack everythign on top of each other! Here's how I do it:
First, combine mayo and calabrian chilis in a small bowl and mix. If it's not spicy enough, add more sambal, if it's too spicy, add more mayo. You just want it to taste good to YOU!
Now split open the kings hawaiian pretzel rolls and smear each side with mayo.
Smear half of the spicy mayo on the bottom half and then evenly distribute the provolone, muenster, ham, salami, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, banana peppers, roasted red peppers and basil leaves.
Now place the other half of the buns on top of the sandwich and use a serrated knife to cut them into individual sandwiches.
Serve immediately or wrap up and refrigerate to enjoy later.

Frequently asked questions
Are there any vegetarian options for Italian Sliders on Hawaiian Pretzel Rolls?
Always! I love vegifying any and all sandwiches! Instead of the cold cuts, try using balsamic grilled vegetables like zucchini, onion, eggplant, and bell peppers. To be honest, I love Italian veggie sandwiches just as much as these!
Can I prepare Italian Sliders on Hawaiian Pretzel Rolls in advance?
I feel mixed about this! So if you're making them ahead of time, I would only do it a few hours in advance. If you do it a full day in advance, you risk the bread getting soggy and the greens getting gross. For best practice, I recommend eating them with 3-5 hours of making them.
Can I customize the fillings in my Italian Sliders?
I always say yes to this kind of question! Feel free to experiment with different fillings to suit your preferences. You can add sliced tomatoes, fresh basil leaves, or even a drizzle of fresh pesto for a herby twist. Get creative and make it your own!
