Ingredients & Substitutions
The best part about this easy recipe is that you can switch up so many components. Here are my go-tos along with substitutions that make these tortilla pizzas even better!
- Large tortillas: The base of this thin crust pizza! Based on my testing, I recommend large flour tortillas for the best results. But you could absolutely use low carb tortillas, whole wheat, or even corn tortillas for a different texture. Heck, you could even use split open english muffins to make english muffin pizzas!
- Marinara sauce: Raos marinara sauce is what we always use. But you can also use homemade pizza sauce, store-bought pizza sauce, pasta sauce, or tomato sauce if you wish. I just always have a jar of marinara sauce in my fridge so it's accidentally become our favorite pizza sauce.
- Mozzarella cheese: Shredded is easiest, but you could absolutely shred the cheese yourself if you want. If you're using fresh mozzarella on your personal pizza, just be aware that it's more watery so you will want your crust to crisp up before adding the toppings. You can do this by cooking it under the broiler for a few minutes before saucing it.
- Pepperoni: I LOVVVVVE cup n crispy pepperoni - seriously they're the best! But you could leave it off, use turkey pepperoni, italian sausage, or ground beef, or load it up with veggies like green peppers, red onion, or bell peppers if that's more your speed.
- Additional toppings: Anything goes - I have a whole section written below the detailed instructions if you want inspiration! Think parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, olive oil, or even cookie cutter shaped toppings for picky eaters aka toddlers.
Detailed Instructions
After making dozens of these tortilla pizzas for my kids, here are all the tips and tricks that I've figured out along the way.
PREHEAT OVEN & BAKING SHEET: Set your preheated oven to broil with a baking sheet or pizza stone inside for 5 minutes to get it nice and hot. This is essential for getting that crispier crust on the bottom of the pizza. I recommend using a nonstick baking sheet if you have it. You could also just spray it with cooking spray or use parchment paper if you don't have one... but it has a tendency to burn once it's under the broiler.
ASSEMBLE PIZZAS: Meanwhile, spread a little bit of marinara sauce over each large tortilla, leaving a half-inch border aroudn the edges to define the crust. Sprinkle on mozzarella cheese and any favorite toppings.
BROIL: Carefully place tortilla pizzas on the hot baking sheet and place it on bottom oven rack of the oven. Let them cook for about 5 minutes, or until the bottom crust is golden brown and the toppings are bubbling. If you add a lot of toppings, you might need to cook it for 5-7 minutes. Honestly, I feel like not all broilers are created equal so cook time may vary! Just be sure to keep an eye on it.
COOL & SERVE: Let your pizzas rest for a little bit before slicing. Serve with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, fresh basil, or red pepper flakes for extra flavor!

To store leftovers, place them in an airtight container or wrap in tinfoil and keep them in the fridge for up to 3 days.
