This black eyed pea dip is inspired by a dish from Pies & Thighs, which is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. It’s a full of flavor and is super easy to whip up. Serve it with chips or as a salad.
What is Black Eyed Pea Dip
Black Eyed Pea Dip is a tasty concoction that's as comforting as a Southern hug in a bowl.
Picture this: black-eyed peas, that humble yet flavor-packed legume, joined by a medley of red onion and pickled jalapenos.
To add more zhuzh, mix in some some cilantro, scallions, and of course, my secret ingredient - Wickles Pickles Relish!
The result is out of this world delicious. Plus, it gets better if it sits in the fridge which is a win-win if you're prepping the day before!
I serve them as a dip with chips or as a side salad for my main meal.
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Black Eyed Peas - Black eyed peas are the star of the show but you could absolutely use another type of legume.
- Red Onion - White, yellow, or even sweet onion works perfectly!
- Wickles Pickles Relish - if you've never had this relish before, get ready to have your mind blown! This is all we use at my house because it is truly the best! So so SO flavorful!
- Scallions - Chives can also work in place of scallions.
- Cilantro - If you have a cilantro aversion, leave it out or sub for parsley.
- Pickled Jalapenos - This adds just a little punch of heat but if you want it spicier, use fresh jalapenos.... or if you don't like heat, just leave them out completely.
- Red Wine Vinegar - You could also use another vinegar of your choice like rice wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, etc.
- Olive Oil - Any neutral oil will work.
- Franks's Red Hot Sauce - If you don't have Frank's you could use another vinegar-y hot sauce like Lousiana or Crystals.
