- Marshmallows - The small jet-puffed marshmallows are choice but you could use the big ones if that's all you had.
- Pumpkin Spice Cheerios - If you can't find pumpkin spice cheerios, you can absolutely use regular cheerios and a teaspoon or so of pumpkin spice mix.
How to make it
Making browned butter pumpkin spiced cheerio bars is super easy!
Begin by adding salted butter to a large nonstick pot over medium heat.
Stir the butter until melted.
Once melted, it will start to foam up and turn pale yellow/clear-ish. At this point, make sure to keep stirring and watching as the butter begins to brown.
After a minute or two, it will start to smell nutty and the color will turn to a warm brown color.
Now it's time to add the marshmallows - reserving a handful for later.
Stir in the marshmallows and turn the heat to low. Once they're melted and combined, stir in the cheerios.
NOTE: If you overcook the marshmallows, the treats will be rock hard so make sure your heat is on low and don't heat them too long.
Now quickly mix together until all the cheerios are everything is coated in the brown butter marshmallow mixture.
Add in the reserved handful of marshmallows and stir once more.
Now it's time to form them.
Crumbled a sheet of parchment paper and add it to a baking dish.
Rub the buttery wrapper that the butter came in all over the parchment paper to help the treats from sticking.
Quickly and carefully pour the treat mixture into the lined baking dish.
Next, grease your hands with the butter paper and carefully (if not too hot) pat down the treat mixture so it has a flat, even surface.
Let cook for a few minutes before digging in.
