This crispy feta toast is one of my favorite things to eat these days! I drizzle mine with hot honey for a sweet, spicy and savory crispy snack that's out of this world delicious! Try it with my roasted feta soup!
What is Crispy Feta Toast
Crispy feta toast is that mouthwatering snack where each crunch harmonizes with sweet, salty and umami goodness.
But it’s not just a snack; it’s a flavor and texture experience, where the briny tang of feta cheese meets its destiny in a golden-brown char.
To finish it off, it's then drizzled with hot honey! And let me just warn you -- it’s a game-changer!
Just imagine that sticky, sweet heat that dances on your palate, elevating the savory tangy notes to celestial heights.
Whether it's sidling up next to a bowl of rich, roasted feta soup or standing proud on its own, this crispy feta toast isn't just food – it's a vibe, a moment, a blissful bite that encapsulates the artisanal spirit of comfort food.
So, when you crunch into this epic toast, just know you're about to experience the most heavenly flavors!
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Sourdough - You can use any sort of bread but sourdough is my preference. Feel free to try it with pita, naan or another sliced bread.
- Feta - I think Athenos crumbled feta makes the best crispy feta toast but this kind of toast is pretty achievable with other melty cheeses.
- Hot Honey - Totally optional but I think it adds so much flavor! Try using regular honey if you're not a fan.
- Nonstick Spray - If you've got a really good nonstick pan, then you can skip the nonstick spray... or add a tad bit of oil and butter.
How to make it
Heat a nonstick pan over medium high. Once it's hot, lightly spray the center with nonstick spray.
Add the crumbled feta to the middle of the pan and let it heat up. It will begin to bubble and separate but you'll want to use a spatula to push it all together in the same shape of the toast.
Once bubbling, add the toast right on top of all the feta and let it keep cooking.
Once you notice the edges of the feta start to darken and get golden, carefully use a spatula to flip the toast - holding the crispy feta in place with the spatula as you flip it.
Cook the other side for a few minutes until it's toasted and golden.
Remove from heat and add a drizzle of hot honey.
What goes with Crispy Feta Toast
I first made crispy feta toast for my roasted feta soup with butternut squash but it can go with a ton of different dishes!
For soups, I recommend trying my Sausage, Kale and White Bean Soup, Chicken Florentine Soup with Orzo, or even this Red Cabbage Soup - Sweet, Sour & So Delicious!
For salads, try this kale butternut squash salad or this BBQ Chicken Salad.
Frequently asked questions
What is feta good with?
Feta is like the cool-kid of the cheese world, turning everything from juicy watermelon salads to flaky spanakopita pastries into creamy, tangy, crumbly bites of pure joy!
How do you melt feta cheese?
Crank up the heat and get ready to watch that feta turn into a glorious, creamy dream - just toss it in a hot skillet with a drizzle of olive oil or a spritz of cooking spray and stir until it's irresistibly ooey-gooey!
What are the rules for feta?
Feta, that crumbly Greek bombshell, plays by EU rules; it's gotta be traditional and territorial, hailing from specific areas in Greece to earn that coveted "protected designation of origin" status. Stick to sheep's milk (or a splash of goat's) for that authentic tangy kick that's just begging for a tomato cuddle or a flirty drizzle of olive oil.
