This gooey grilled cheese is loaded with Trader Joe's Pumpkin Butter, salty prosciutto, tangy goat cheese, buttery muenster cheese and crisp apple. It's the perfect grilled cheese recipe for Fall!
Why You'll Love It
Y’all are about to fall head over heels for this Pumpkin Butter Grilled Cheese with Prosciutto, Goat Cheese, Muenster, and Apple on Sourdough. It's basically all the cozy fall flavors wrapped up in the ultimate cheesy, melty, crispy sandwich.
The sweet, slightly spiced pumpkin butter from Trader Joe’s is a total game-changer. It adds this perfect warmth and sweetness that balances beautifully with the tangy goat cheese and creamy muenster.
Then, you’ve got the salty prosciutto—because, hello, prosciutto makes everything better! It adds that salty, savory bite that’s just irresistible.
And don't even get me started on the apple slices. The crisp, tart crunch is just what you need to cut through the richness and give your taste buds a little zing.
All of this goodness is nestled between two slices of crusty sourdough that gets perfectly golden and toasty.
When you bite in, the textures and flavors create this beautiful combination of sweet, salty, creamy, and crunchy. You won’t be able to stop after just one bite, I promise!
So let’s make this fall sandwich together!
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Bread: I like using sourdough bread but you could change up the bread to whatever you prefer!
- Cheese: I recommend using a combination of goat cheese and muenster. Since the Pumpkin Butter is so sweet, I think you need a strong cheese like goat cheese to mellow it out. I also think the muenster adds a beautiful buttery melty finish. You could change up the cheeses but think about balancing out that sweet flavor if you do so.
- Trader Joe's Pumpkin Butter: If you don't have Trader Joe's Pumpkin Butter, you could swap it out for another brand or even homemade pumpkin butter. You could also use apple butter.
- Prosciutto: If you're a vegetarian or don't like prosciutto, leave it out.
- Apple: Apple is optional but I love the crunch it adds.
- Butter: Salty butter is recommended but if you only have unsalted - that's fine - just add an extra pinch of salt to make up for it.
How to Make it
Making this Pumpkin butter grilled cheese is as easy as 1-2-3! Here's how you do it:
Build the Sandwich: Smear the pumpkin butter onto one slice of sourdough then top with crumbled goat cheese. Add the prosciutto and apple evenly across the sandwich then add the muenster. Close the sandwich up with the top piece of bread.
Butter the Sandwich: Smear butter on the outside of the bread.
Grill the Sandwich: Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add the sandwich. Cook for a few minutes on each side, flipping as needed, until the bread is crispy golden brown and the cheese has melted.
Rest and Serve: Remove from the heat and let rest for a few minutes before serving.
