Easy Homemade Tzatziki Sauce

This easy homemade tzatziki sauce recipe is one of my favorite greek yogurt dips. After going to Greece a few years ago, I quickly learned that my version of this recipe was not authentic by any means but it’s still my family’s favorite sauces I make which is why I’m sharing it!

Prep Time 15 minutes
Course Appetizer, Side Dish
Cuisine American, greek
Servings 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Grated Persian Cucumber using the large holes on a box grater
  • 1.5 cups Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tablespoon Red Onion or Shallot grated
  • 2 clove Garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 1 tablespoon Finishing Olive Oil
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh Mint finely chopped & packed
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Dill finely chopped & packed
  • ¼ teaspoon Kosher Salt

Instructions

  • **Begin by removing the excess moisture from the cucumber. You can do this by wrapping the grated cucumber strands in a paper towel or cheese cloth and squeeze... or by placing it in a strainer and pressing down until the liquid runs out.** See notes below about skipping this step
  • Once the cucumber is prepped, you can add all ingredients to a bowl or tupperware and stir together.
  • Season to taste and add more lemon juice or salt and pepper if needed.

Notes

**To be honest, this first part is optional. if you want a thicker tzatziki, you should do it, but if you don't mind a more loose tzatziki, you can skip straining the cucumber. I do it both ways and like them both pretty much the same!
