Sour Power: Goats Milk Cheddar Grilled Cheese with Sour Cherry Jam, Crispy Fried Sage + Bacon on Sourdough Bread

goats milk cheddar grilled cheese with sour cherry jam, crispy fried sage, bacon + black pepper butter on sourdough

Baking and I do not get along. The idea of measuring a bunch of white stuff that all looks the same stresses me the eff out. I can never remember if I added a certain ingredient which then causes me to second guess myself and of course, ruin it. I’ve never been good at it and to tell you the truth, the idea of having to be all scientist-like gives me an automatic tension headache.

Last week when my friends from Brooklyn, Adina and Adam (my fav humans in the world/geniuses behind the skincare wonder-line S.W. Basics), brought me a sourdough starter, I internally panicked. I really wanted a sourdough starter, not because I knew what to do with it, but because it sounded awesome and I like to be optimistic about one day becoming a baking queen. Crazy, right?? Continue reading

The Feschzel – Bavarian Pretzel Grilled Cheese with Wisconsin Gouda, Honey Baked Ham, Caramelized Onions and Bavarian Mustard

Pretzel Grilled Cheese with Caramelized Onions, Ham, and Gouda Cheese

A few years ago I packed up my bags and headed to the midwest to judge Wisconsin’s Grilled Cheese Academy’s Recipe Showdown. Not only was it like THE BEST TRIP EVER because I got to taste about a billion different ooey gooey creations, but I also got to get a taste of what cheese country was all about. I met prolific cheese makers, heard their stories, learned about cheese making, and most importantly, ATE ALL THE CHEESE!

It was there that I met my cheesy girl crush, Marieke Penterman, who moved from the Netherlands to Wisconsin to craft her authentic gouda cheese right here in America. It’s mildly salty, just a tad sweet, perfectly nutty, and melts like a dream. Her Dutch gouda is basically a match made in heaven for grilled cheese lovers. Continue reading
