Omg can you believe that National Grilled Cheese Month is almost over! It’s been such a busy month for me and I’m so sad to see it come to an end! I had such a spankin’ good time working with Sara Lee Bread and Wisconsin Cheese and I am so thankful that we got to do such cool stuff! This morning when I woke up, I was actually bummed that NGCM is almost over until I realized that there’s no reason to ever really “end” grilled cheese month — especially since American’s eat 2.2 BILLION GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES EVERY YEAR! Today was just one of those days. I woke up with a slight hangover from partying way too hard with my Grandma and Grandpa. (Yes, you read that correctly. They get lit especially when it’s $5 martini night at our local steakhouse.) I couldn’t find anything to wear. Haley, my bestie who always helps me do my makeup, was out of town. A few years ago I packed up my bags and headed to the midwest to judge Wisconsin’s Grilled Cheese Academy’s Recipe Showdown. Not only was it like THE BEST TRIP EVER because I got to taste about a billion different ooey gooey creations, but I also got to get a taste of what cheese country was all about. I met prolific cheese makers, heard their stories, learned about cheese making, and most importantly, ATE ALL THE CHEESE!
It was there that I met my cheesy girl crush, Marieke Penterman, who moved from the Netherlands to Wisconsin to craft her authentic gouda cheese right here in America. It’s mildly salty, just a tad sweet, perfectly nutty, and melts like a dream. Her Dutch gouda is basically a match made in heaven for grilled cheese lovers. Continue reading
